PLEASE NOTE: GAME IS BROKEN

FIX HERE: https://matticgreek.itch.io/dont-scare-me-like-that-fixed

EXPLANATION: The game is broken on this page due to a bug in Unity (not the game code). A deleted tag caused objects to be misidentified. It's only an issue in the build, not the editor, and become apparent too late to fix for the jam submission. The above link has a fixed version, which is literally just me closing/reopening Unity to get rid of the deleted tag, then hitting Build again. If this disqualifies the game for the jam, so be it, but at least the game is playable now! Once the rating is over I will update this page with the fixed build.

ABOUT THE GAME:

A puzzle-shmup where you can't shmup. Created for Game Maker's Toolkit Game Jam 2018.

Use the ARROW KEYS to move (the green square); get close to enemies (the yellow shapes) and press SPACE to startle them and see what they do.

Enemies are aware of you and the environment and adjust their behavior accordingly.

Thin rectangles are passive objects - such as the red gate at the top (turns green when open) - but may have effects.

Study the enemies' behavior and the environment, then scare the enemies at the right time to use their own weapons against them. Can you figure out how to destroy enough enemies to open the gate and move on to the next level?

There are four levels of increasing difficulty, and two enemy types.

Yeah, no graphics or sound. : / Had about a day to work on this. Just enough time to implement the mechanics and levels.

Hey! So I played through the fixed version and the broken version .And I think I like the fixed one better :P.  Very Interesting idea,  but it took me a while to understand. And I got stuck in the level where there's a rectangle of sorts on the right hand side. I kill the enemy but the gate doesnt go green. It goes green when I touch the rectangle thingy, but that kills me.

So in summation: Cool idea. So please do keep on refining it

Cheers

Makes sense; sounds like I could clarify that. Thanks for the feedback, and for playing! I like the fixed version better, too.
